Video – Kristen Cornwell Trio – For What It’s Worth

Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to make my first real music video. I’d first met Australian singer Kristen Cornwell and her husband, bass player Christophe Devisscher, when I made a video for the Let The Music Speak project.

A joint love for good coffee and music made us meet up from time to time and at the start of the year, they contacted me to work out a concept for their redition of Buffalo Springfield’s For What It’s Worth, a track on an, at that point, upcoming release of classic blues and protest songs with a jazz twist.

They knew my work and gave me complete carte blanche, which was genuinely awesome. After going through a few more ambitious scripts that could have never gotten finished in time, I ended up digging through my photo archives.

I looked for shots that portray things that are going wrong in our society and cut them with more uplifting snapshots that give hope for the present and future, contrasting B&w with colour shots.

Given the current (inter)national political climate, it’s as topical as ever. We’ve come a long way since this sixties, but there’s still a long way to go …
